ABOUT

GymAdemics was born out of an idea by John McGuire, 17-year educator and 15 year coach. Mr. McGuire has taught many levels within the public school district including Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Test Prep, and the research-based LEADS Program blending language Arts and Social Studies.

McGuire has a M.A. degree in Educational Leadership graduating with honors. He has a passion for school reform and challenging the "old school" approaches to learning. His thoughts on education : "Children truly do learn better when actively engaged. Today's children are born into a fast-paced world so why not teach them in a fast paced instructional and engaging environment? That does NOT mean faster than they can handle but rather in a meaningful way where they are being challenged academically and physically."

McGuire has also had tremendous experience outside of the classroom as well; involving himself in many extra-curricular activities and committees. He has created and organized a $1932.00 fund-raiser for four families who lost loved ones in Elizabeth, NJ after September 11, 2001. McGuire has also created a school 8th grade Prom and raised over $23,000 total in eight years for this yearly event. He created, established, and oversaw committees for Big Brother and Sister Programs. He has served as a chairman for School leadership, Affirmative Action, School Discipline, Black History and Women's History Month.

He designed a student-athlete progress report that accurately rates athletes and assures academic eligibility. Elizabeth High School Soccer and Baseball program still use the tool to monitor their players.

Featured as a Teacher of Excellence in NJ

In May of 2013, Mr. McGuire was featured in NJEA Classroom Upclose Television Program. His Social Studies and himself were filmed for the use of technology within the classroom. The project brought World War II characters alive in a school-made movie. Students used Ipads to create these films. Mr. McGuire was chosen for the extraordinary efforts and use of technology.
